We were honored to receive the Excellence Prize in the Environmentally Friendly Business Category at the 18th Shinjuku Eco-One Grand Prix. This award recognizes activities and initiatives that contribute to achieving a Zero Carbon City Shinjuku and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while making a positive impact on the environment and society in Shinjuku.

Building a Sustainable Future Through the “SORAKASA Workshop”

We regularly hold workshops using the SORAKASAKIT handmade umbrella kit. Through this experience, participants learn about the social issues surrounding disposable plastic umbrellas and gain an understanding of umbrella structure.

By making an umbrella with their own hands, they develop an appreciation for how things are made and the importance of repairing and reusing items rather than discarding them. Creating a one-of-a-kind umbrella fosters a sense of attachment to belongings, encouraging a mindset of valuing things while inspiring deeper thought about environmental and social issues.

The SORAKASA KIT workshop features umbrella fabric made from recycled materials sourced from Ziploc® (Asahi Kasei Home Products Corporation). By engaging with recycled Ziploc® materials—items commonly used in daily life—participants experience firsthand how familiar products can be reborn into something new.
